Both tiers start from the same foundation, and it’s worth understanding that foundation before looking at the upgrade.

• A router, included. No purchase, no separate equipment fee. It stays current and supported, so you’re not buying a new one every few years.
• Whole-home coverage with mesh expansion. You can add additional access points to reach the rooms a single router can’t, which covers the great majority of homes in the area including two-story houses and older places with thick plaster walls.
• App control. Manage devices, adjust settings, and check on your network from your phone, at home or away.
• Guest networks. Keep visitors and their devices off your main network without giving out your password.

Whole-home network security

This is the biggest difference. Security that lives on the network watches every device connected to it, rather than protecting one phone or one laptop at a time.

It helps block phishing sites, malware, and viruses before they reach anything in your home, monitors for suspicious activity, and alerts you when something looks wrong. Crucially, it covers the devices that can’t protect themselves: the smart TV, the video doorbell, the cameras, the thermostat, the plugs.

But if you’ve already invested in a mesh system you like and you’re happy managing it yourself, that’s a perfectly reasonable choice and we’re not going to pretend otherwise.
